Now Assist for EA + SPM: Copilot 1.0… or the Start of Something Bigger?

By Jeff Tabian, ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect at iTech AG

ServiceNow’s Australia release brings Now Assist into Enterprise Architecture (EA) and expands its role across Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM). On the surface, these capabilities improve usability—faster summaries, easier navigation, and quicker insights.

But this moment is bigger than usability. It signals a shift toward operationalizing intelligence across the platform.

Today, Now Assist for EA represents Copilot 1.0. It helps teams understand their environment more efficiently. But understanding has never been the real bottleneck. Execution has.

Most organizations already have visibility into their architecture. They know where redundancy exists, which systems are aging, and where investments should be made. The challenge is connecting that insight to action.

That gap sits between Enterprise Architecture and Strategic Portfolio Management.

EA defines what exists and what should change.

SPM determines what gets funded and prioritized.

In practice, these functions are often disconnected. Architecture produces recommendations, while portfolio teams make decisions based on fragmented data and delayed feedback loops. The result is predictable: misaligned investments, duplicated capabilities, and demand evaluated without full context.

This is where AI changes the model.

When intelligence operates across both EA and SPM, the platform becomes a system of decision:

  • Architecture insights inform investment decisions
  • Portfolio priorities reflect real system constraints
  • Demand is evaluated against existing capabilities
  • Technology and business strategy move in sync

This is the shift from visibility to decision intelligence.

At iTech AG, this is an active focus across our Data Integration & Analytics and Enterprise Investment Management solutions. The goal is to connect architecture, investment, and operational data into decision frameworks that help organizations rationalize portfolios, prioritize investments, and align technology to mission outcomes.

Now Assist accelerates this by making insights more accessible. However, this is only the starting point. The real transformation comes with AI agents that move from insight to action.

Consider what becomes possible:

  • An Application Rationalization Agent identifies redundant systems and consolidation opportunities
  • An Investment Prioritization Agent recommends funding decisions based on value, alignment, and capacity
  • A Demand Intelligence Agent evaluates requests against existing capabilities
  • A Technical Debt Agent surfaces modernization risks early
  • A Workforce Alignment Agent connects demand to capacity and skills

These are not static reports. They are continuous, adaptive capabilities that guide decision-making in real time. Now Assist brings intelligence closer to the user and reduces friction.

But the real opportunity lies beyond copilots—building a platform where architecture, investment, and execution are continuously aligned, and where AI helps organizations decide what to do next with clarity and confidence.

That is the shift underway, and it will define the next phase of digital transformation.

At iTech AG, we help organizations connect Enterprise Architecture, Strategic Portfolio Management, and platform data to turn insight into action. By aligning technology decisions with mission outcomes and enabling AI-driven decision frameworks, we enable organizations to move from visibility to execution with confidence.
